Dorset Holiday Weekend

March 9th, 2008 · No Comments

What a fantastic weekend we all had. We headed down to a cottage in Dorset for a mini-holiday courtesy of granny. It was one of her Christmas presents to the boys — and oh boy! did they (and us) every enjoy it. So much so that Tolii was in tears leaving the place [...]

Making Wine In Sardinia (1991)

February 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Way back in the autumn of 1991, Andrew spent some time on the island of Sardinia, in the Mediterranean, off the coast of Italy. He mostly just hung out because he was a) young; b) naive; c) broke. A couple of those days were spent helping pick buckets of grapes and then watching [...]

Portsmouth - Third Time Lucky!

February 10th, 2008 · No Comments

The Russians are coming (on Canadian built tanks)!
Today, we had an expedition to Portsmouth to explore the tanks, the seaside and the battleships. We had a nice lunch, too.
This is the third time we’ve visited the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home of Warrior and Victory. And, it is the first time we succeeded in [...]

A Varekai Day

February 1st, 2008 · 1 Comment

Daddy took Tolii into London today for a “day out with Daddy”.
We started the day by missing our 9:12 train because Tosha was dilly-dallying over his breakfast (he does eat it eventually). But hey, it was a day off for daddy, so who really cares?
There was a distraction: the dinosaur eggs that Tolii and [...]

A Loss at Victory!

January 13th, 2008 · 1 Comment

One of Tolii’s Christmas presents was a book of tickets for various experiences. One of them we cashed in last weekend: a trip to Portsmouth harbour to visit HMS Victory, Nelson’s ship at the Battle of Trafalgar.
A little research beforehand would have revealed that it wasn’t run like the sister ship Warrior: it was [...]

Flight Patterns

November 21st, 2007 · No Comments

If you like pretty pictures and flying, then you’d probably like the “reality art” (does any one else call it that?) over at Flight Patterns. It shows the flights within North America over one day.
I got there through a random read of Wikipedia - its home page featured the article on the WTC7 building. [...]

Daddy is just back from the Bluetooth Unplugfest-28, a quarterly industry meeting for testing all things Bluetooth. Last time it was in Taipei. Next time it is in Las Vegas. This time, it was in…Brussels.
Here is what Bryson had to say on the city: I walked and walked down long streets that [...]

Portsmouth in February

February 18th, 2007 · No Comments

About an hour’s drive south of us is Portsmouth. We went to see the aquarium (again) and to have a stroll along the seaside. Tolii loved to watch the tropical fish from the big concave window; Tosha crawled in as well! The favourites were also there - otters! Tolii spent a good half-hour investigating their [...]

Grandpa Arrives

November 26th, 2006 · No Comments

Grandpa (aka Brian, aka Andrew’s dad) arrived at Heathrow this morning from Toronto. Tolii and Tosha were extremely excited by his arrival.
His flight was delayed leaving Toronto by 20 minutes because some loser didn’t retract the gangway properly and the plane snagged it when it started backing away. Who do they employ at [...]
