If you look enough, then you’ll find things on the web. Sometimes, you find things you like.
Here are some music (usually free MP3) and music-video (usually embedded Adobe Flash) samples that I like. Many are on albums that I like.
I’ve provided links to Zunior.com because I buy a lot of my stuff from them — highly recommended. I don’t get a referral fee, either (’cause they don’t offer one, that I’m aware of…hint! hint!).
Free MP3 Songs
There’s quite a few artists licensing their work under the CreativeCommons. You should browse it here:
- ccMixter (re-mixes of freely available music licensed under CreativeCommons)
- Internet Archive eTree (free music from across the Internet)
Some songs on some of the albums that we like can also be downloaded (legally) from the web. Here’s where to find some:
There’s some free Christmas songs available too:
Great Lake Swimmers
Backstage with the Modern Dancers (other samples at Zunior.com):
New Pornographers
Myriad Harbour (other samples at Zunior.com):
Feist
My Moon, My Man:
The Weakerthans
Watermark:
Holy Fuck
“…Contains no computers, midi, samplers, sequencers or drum machines. The beats and samples are provided by Casio SK’s and other garage sale keyboards. The scratches on the CD are done with a 35 mm film synchronizer which is a piece of film editing equipment that to the best of my knowledge has never been used as a musical instrument. All textures, bleeps and pulsing drones are made with guitar effect pedals. It’s a wonderful collection of raw, rich sounds. …Going from scattered guitar pieces to noises and crashes as melody lines with weird beats that sounds like your standing 2 feet away from a construction site on peyote. …A must for those who like to be captivated, intrigued and blown the fuck away.” -Earshot!
