Cine to Digital Video

August 16th, 2008 · No Comments

I just got back the digitized version of all of my dad’s Super 8mm cine film!
What does that mean?
It means we can watch films from my childhood in the 1970s without having to set up a projector!

Whitchurch Church Fête 2008

July 12th, 2008 · No Comments

The town’s Church Fête was held today in its usual spot: the lawn of Lord Denning’s estate, opposite the parish church.
You can have a look at the photos that I took - they’re all in our gallery (you can click on a thumbnail of a picture in the gallery to see a medium sized version; [...]

Whitchurch Carnival and Procession

July 5th, 2008 · No Comments

This town of ours keeps on wow-ing us. Today was the first carnival and procession in the town since 1996 - and you could tell the event has been sorrily missed. The king, queen, prince and princesses were all in attendance, too!
The creativity and fun shown was second to none. Heck, it [...]

Power Picnic no.2

June 29th, 2008 · 2 Comments

This weekend we hosted our second “Power Picnic” on Whitchurch’s Millennium Meadow.  The idea is to get a few friends together and head down to the town’s beautiful meadow for some volunteer work mowing the lawn - plus having a BBQ and a few beers.
We had been concentrating our efforts around the little stream that [...]

Power Picnic on the Millennium Meadow

May 31st, 2008 · 2 Comments

This afternoon, we joined up with Kudrat and most of his kids to have a “power picnic” on the Millennium Meadow.  As usual, there are lots of photos of the event!
The power was supplied by the turbo-charged (it seemed) power lawn mower owned by the Millennium Green Trust. The picnic was supplied by Katya.
Andrew [...]

Whitchurch Pub Race 2008

May 27th, 2008 · 1 Comment

This past Sunday saw the return of the Whitchurch Pub Race - something that hasn’t been seen around these parts for well over a decade (so the locals tell me). Thankfully, the rain cleared up by Sunday afternoon, just in time for the race.
Andrew is the official photographer of this year’s revived Whitchurch Festival [...]

Playing in the Snow!

April 6th, 2008 · 1 Comment

We awoke to the normal thump, bump, prrr, ouch! that is our lot. Tolii and Tosha, plus our cats jumped into our bed to wake us up.
After a bit of bouncing (and granted, a short snooze after we calmed them down); we decided it was time to get up and open the blinds.
Oh my [...]

Hail the Easter Egg Hunt!

March 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

Not even a hail storm could prevent our annual Easter Egg hunt from going ahead.
The eggs weren’t really egg-shaped: they were in the shape of bugs, chickens, bunnies and very big bunnies (all from Lidl).
We descended upon the Whitchurch Millennium Meadow for the event. There’s even more photos in our gallery.
There were lots of [...]

Redevelopment Of Old Library’s Site

March 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

The plans for the redevelopment of the site that used to have the “temporary” (from the 1970s!) library show a really ugly set of buildings.
I added my comments to the plans at the Basingstoke & Dean Borough Council (B&DBC) website. It showed the status as still being in “consultation” even though the notices [...]

Whitchurch Daffodils, and Development

March 20th, 2008 · No Comments

It was the first day of spring…and the daffodils at the All Hallows Church were in full bloom. The bunnies were quite active too! More photos are in our gallery.

The construction of the new housing development, Park View, on the other side of the old railway line is well underway.

The newly [...]

A Walk “Within” Whitchurch

February 9th, 2008 · No Comments

This weekend we stayed well within the known Whitchurch area (unlike last weekend). Tosha’s friend Tristan brought along his sister Autumn and his mum and dad (Carole and Richard) for a walk along the Test River path and into the Millennium Meadow.
It was a gorgeous spring day in the middle of winter: sunny and [...]

A Walk “Around” Whitchurch

February 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

Andrew left a message on Kudrat & Jackie’s answerphone: “We’re heading out for a walk around Whitchurch and wondered if you and your kids would like to join us. We’re going to go see the Sandwich Cows in the meadow, the Mill, the Test River, and finish up near the primary school. Call [...]

Autumn Colours (aka Fall Colors)

November 4th, 2007 · No Comments

This autumn has been spectacular for the colour of the foliage around us! There were a few frosty nights a little while ago, and now it is pretty mild - ideal for having, and photographing, the changing landscape.
On Saturday, after Tolii’s regular swim lessons, we had a delicious pub lunch at The Bush Inn, [...]
