Just before it was shown, Katya gave a brief talk about the Arctic and showed some of the research being done at the National Oceanographic Centre where she works as a research scientist.
In thanks, I presented her with a ‘Arctic Ice Melt’ flower arrangement created especially for the evening by Whitchurch Arts member Emma Elise Sherman.
If you haven’t seen the movie, then you’ll likely enjoy it for all the stunning photography. The engineer in me liked seeing the struggles of creating equipment that would take photos every hour or so for months on end in extreme conditions.
The bit about the dirt from the African deserts mixed with ash from forest fires and coal dust I found interesting – I didn’t know ice was so dirty, or that it was that dark dust that sped up the melting of the ice.
