I was invited along by my good mate John to the book launch of CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide 2010 up at the Swan in Kingsclere. Two other members of CAMRA, Nick and Jeff, also went along with us.
The Swan is a great place with all the charms you’d expect of an English Pub – wood tables, bar, ceiling joists, brick wall, fireplaces, warm atmosphere and a good selection of reasonably priced food. Its a place I want to go back to for dinner with the family soon!
Most of the talk was, as you’d expect, about beer and pubs.
More so, because an “Oktoberfest” (in October!? I think the real one in Munich is already done and dusted!) is happening this weekend at Milestones Museum in Basingstoke. All the chaps we met up with at the pub tonight seemed to be involved in several ways with its organisation. Key accomplishment of the night was ensuring that the man delivering the kegs would be dropping them off at the top of the hill.
Anyway, a good night out, and just now I signed up to become a member.
