Tolii and Speedy play checkers.
Speedy, a very fluffy dog from Whitchurch Primary School, came to visit Tolii. He had visited with all the kids in Tolii’s class except Tolii and two others. He usually stays weekends, but since there were only two weekends left before breaking for summer, he made a special mid-week visit.
Tolii was super-excited. First, he introduced Speedy to mummy, daddy, Tosha and our two cats (they gave Speedy a good sniffing).
Tosha took an immediate liking to Speedy – a bit too much for Tolii’s liking. After a bit of a delicate negotiation, Speedy was restored to his rightful owner!

Speedy shared in some of the fun things that Tolii likes to do.
First up was Tolii’s new found love for draughts (checkers). Tolii just started playing last weekend and is truly hooked. Mummy taught him the basic rules (including ‘Polish rules checkers’ — something new to daddy who was Tolii and Speedy’s opponent — that probably explains why daddy lost!). Daddy is frantically looking for Canadian rules checkers so he stands a chance of winning!

After a good night’s sleep (and further negotiation about who’s bed Speedy would sleep in), it was time to head to school. It was sport day, and Tolii’s team came in first! Must be Speedy’s good luck! Yippee!

After school, everyone went to the BMX track next to the school. Speedy had a wail of a time going over all the humps and bumps on Tolii’s new mountain bike. Tosha took along Doggy so that he could enjoy the thrills, too.

On Thursday, Tolii headed off to Birdworld for a class trip. Birds don’t like dogs much, so Speedy rested at home. Good thing too, because after school, and the trip, Tolii took Speedy to his gymnastics class at Andover Salto Centre!

Speedy was put through his paces as he joined Tolii doing jumps on the trampoline, flips into the foam and balancing on beams. Speedy got a good look around the place when he perched himself (like a bird!) on Tolii when he was doing a handstand.
Speedy had a lot of fun during his visit with Tolii and his family. Speedy is now looking forward to his next adventure before a well-deserved summer holiday.
Tolii was inspired to write this poem about Speedy’s visit:
Speedy the dog, not a mouse
Come and stay in my house.
Please come with me on a bike,
Or we can go on a hike.
You can come with me on my holiday to Crete.
We will give you a big chunk of meat!
We will go together on a water slide,
We can go together on a splashy ride,
We will build a sandcastle on a beach.
We will listen to Obama’s speech.
I will take you with me to gymnastics,
And I know you will be fantastic!
I will show you my computer,
We will go together on a scooter.
