Daddy’s Morning Stress

Katya is having a quiet morning at NOC enjoying looking at the Arctic ice retreat in the ocean model (by some reason faster than observed, but that is a topic for another entry).

8.20am – A phone call from home. A very calm Daddy asks “Where are Tosha’s shorts?” The shorts were left at the sofa at 6.30am. Probably Snape ate them (or someone used them as a football and they will probably be retrieved by Grandpa from under the sofa on his next Christmas visit. By some reason he loves cleaning under the sofa. Perhaps he just enjoys a variety of toys he can find there).

Katya suggests to Daddy to go a get another pair from the cabinet.

8.30am – Another phone call from home. Not so calm Daddy: “How Can I calm Tolii if Tosha is allowed to have his bike and Tolii is not?” A bit of background info: Tolii got a new super 20-inch bike which he proudly rides on the roads and through the fields. It is not exactly clear that this bike actually fits into either of our cars! Tolii wants to put his bike into Daddy’s car so that he can ride it from their parking spot about 100m from the school and walk it from the school gate to the school bike shed! And then to ride another 20m from the shed to Katya’s car when Katya picks him up from the after school club. And anyway Katya clearly remembers that a day ago Tolii and Daddy struck a deal that Tolii does not ride 100m to school but instead goes on a ride with Daddy in the evening. OK, on Katya’s suggestion Tolii is promised to have a ride on his bike up to the nursery in the evening to pick Tosha up.

8.35 Another phone call. A rather stressed Daddy: “Where is Tolii’s school sweater?” Now why does one need a sweater if it is +30C?

8.40.am – Another phone call. Very stressed Daddy: “We were half way to school and discovered that Tosha does not have his sandals on. Which ones are his?” Well, what a strange question. “Whichever fit on him!”

Surely there cannot be too many sandals spread around.

By the way, 8.40 at home probably means that Tolii is late to school and Daddy is definitely late for work. On a positive note Tosha probably got a rare treat of walking to school with Tolii (usually he is being dropped first!) and then sitting in Tolii’s seat on a front seat enjoying a ride without his dearest brother. And Daddy will probably dive into the Fleet pond to calm himself down.

Well, anyway it is all Andrew’s fault. There were an e-mail from him at 8.30 in the morning which means he was sitting in front of the computer, so he surely had too much time on his hands!

Now a pressing question: In what state our house was left this morning? A nuclear explosion?

  • My dear, lovely wife, thank you for sharing that. Next time, I’ll just let Tosha go without sandals! :-)

And, I’ll have you know that I delivered Tosha to the nursery first and got Tolii to school for 9:03 and got to work in the nick of time. Oh yes, and the house was left clean and tidy (at least to my eyes).

As to the email – well, I had to shut down the computer anyway, and so why not take care of a bit of business instead of letting it wait until lunch? Sounds efficient to me. :-)

    Lots of love,

    Your loving husband,

    Father to your children,

And generally all around nice bloke,

    ~Andrew~
