Whitchurch saw the blur that was the country’s newest steam engine, the Tornado, as it whooshed through town today on a St. Valentine’s day journey from London Waterloo.
It looped around the countryside, returning via Southampton and Winchester before passing through Micheldever on its way to Basingstoke and back to London Waterloo.
The boys loved the plume of hot, white steam that engulfed them on top of the bridge as the train passed beneath.
A huge crowd had turned out on the bridges and at the station to watch it pass. Indeed, everywhere we went, we saw people perched to watch. A plane was even tailing it to get a bird’s eye view!
