Lost in the Deep Blue Sea

February 29th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Andrew has been sucked into that world where time does not exist and the addiction to “just one more level” is enough to make you wet your pants instead of getting up to go to the toilet.
In his university days, it was Tetris; Today, it is Deep Blue Sea, made by The Game Equation, a [...]

World-wide Telescope (WWT) - better than Google Sky?

February 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Here’s a blatant plug for the yet-unavailable program from Microsoft Research: World-wide telescope (WWT). There’s a presentation about it from this year’s TED conference, too. Availability of the free program is in “Spring 2008″.
Google Earth already has something similar, and has been available for a while: Google Sky (select “View” then “Switch to Sky”; [...]

Fixing Washed-Out Colour On HP Color LaserJet 2605 - Worth The Trouble!

February 24th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Today, I cleaned our HP Color LaserJet 2605dn printer. By the way, it is spelled “Color” and not “Colour”, even though it was sold here in the UK!

The printouts from it were getting more and more washed-out and tending towards green.
I found a solution to the problem on FixYa and, in case you have [...]

A Walking Tour of London’s Parks For Stefan’s Family

February 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Stefan, a friend dating back over 20 (!!) years from Grade 13 at the Ontario Science Centre Science School, visited London with his family. They are just wrapping up his sabbatical in Austria before heading back to their home in Guelph, Ontario.
It was a bit of a shock for them to be surrounded by [...]

Making Wine In Sardinia (1991)

February 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Way back in the autumn of 1991, Andrew spent some time on the island of Sardinia, in the Mediterranean, off the coast of Italy. He mostly just hung out because he was a) young; b) naive; c) broke. A couple of those days were spent helping pick buckets of grapes and then watching [...]

Portsmouth - Third Time Lucky!

February 10th, 2008 · No Comments

The Russians are coming (on Canadian built tanks)!
Today, we had an expedition to Portsmouth to explore the tanks, the seaside and the battleships. We had a nice lunch, too.
This is the third time we’ve visited the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home of Warrior and Victory. And, it is the first time we succeeded in [...]

A Walk “Within” Whitchurch

February 9th, 2008 · No Comments

This weekend we stayed well within the known Whitchurch area (unlike last weekend). Tosha’s friend Tristan brought along his sister Autumn and his mum and dad (Carole and Richard) for a walk along the Test River path and into the Millennium Meadow.
It was a gorgeous spring day in the middle of winter: sunny and [...]

Blast (off)! There go the evenings!

February 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Mummy and daddy just had their quiet evenings together shortened that little bit starting last night. Tolii complained that he couldn’t sleep when he went to bed after bath with Tosha at 7:15ish.
So, we told him he could come downstairs and spend some time with us. We eventually got him back to bed [...]

A Walk “Around” Whitchurch

February 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

Andrew left a message on Kudrat & Jackie’s answerphone: “We’re heading out for a walk around Whitchurch and wondered if you and your kids would like to join us. We’re going to go see the Sandwich Cows in the meadow, the Mill, the Test River, and finish up near the primary school. Call [...]

A Varekai Day

February 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments

Daddy took Tolii into London today for a “day out with Daddy”.
We started the day by missing our 9:12 train because Tosha was dilly-dallying over his breakfast (he does eat it eventually). But hey, it was a day off for daddy, so who really cares?
There was a distraction: the dinosaur eggs that Tolii and [...]
